The hype and chart leading games are usually Kickstarters with high production value, but low game design quality. Unfortunately many players are enthused by presentation more than they are by implementation. As much as I like Tom Vasel, he falls for this trap often, as do many other reviewers. If you wouldn’t enjoy a game if it were abstracted down to its base gameplay only, then it’s not actually a good game.
